Chinatown community cultural center
Lion dancing and kung-fu, an ancient art dating back 5,000 years to the Han Dynasty, are at the core of the East Wind Foundation's mission. The organization, recognized and respected in the historical community of Los Angeles Chinatown, is dedicated to preserving and sustaining this cultural community. Through our commitment to community service and youth cultural education, the foundation has played a pivotal role in sustaining and developing the tradition of Chinese lion dance and kung-fu.
Grand Opening
On July 3, 2024, East Wind established its own Chinatown Community Cultural Center, which sustains cultural practices, nurtures cultural continuity, and engages our communities by providing a dedicated space for cultural events, informative workshops, and a space for our youths to produce and present creative art. With this cultural space, we can continue to pass down the cultural heritage and legacy of lion dancing and kung-fu because these traditions hold our community's value, identity, long history, and spirit. For no admission fee, our curator will educate and promote Chinese culture to visitors to our cultural center.
Once the visitors enter, they will see all the beautiful Chinese crafts, lion heads, dragons, kung-fu weapons, and many framed pictures of East Wind Foundation for Youth's rich history. This will cultivate the visitors and may influence them to participate in a cultural art organization.
In addition, at the Chinatown Community Cultural Center, we have a historical timeline of the challenges that Chinese Americans faced from 1850 until the present day in Los Angeles. Many of the early Chinese settlers suffered many discrimination laws targeting them. There were many crimes (assaults, robbery, rape, and murder) committed against the Chinese Community that were never prosecuted. An example is the Chinese Massacre in 1871, where nineteen Chinese were murdered in Los Angeles. The Chinese were not allowed to testify in court until 1882. These historical facts are not taught in United States history classes. This space can provide some important information to every visitor that comes into our cultural center.
We welcome you to visit.
